DIE FLEDERMAUS NEWS – casting, chorus and rehearsals!

We had a splendid time on Sunday listening to a host of great auditions for Die Fledermaus. Everyone who auditioned should feel sincerely proud; the quality was very high – it was great to see so many well-prepared and performed auditions. Congratulations everyone – we can’t wait to get started!

Rehearsals
We chose Die Fledermaus as a show where the chorus has a great time and truly delightful music, but as their presence is mostly concentrated in the fabulous party scene in Act II, we are able to make the rehearsal commitment for the chorus as light as possible. If you’ve ever thought of doing a NewLOG show but haven’t been able to make the rehearsal commitments work with your diary, this might be the chance you have been waiting for. The more the merrier!

Unless otherwise arranged, rehearsals will take place at Holy Trinity Church, Prince Consort Road, London SW7 2BA. Some rehearsals may take place in alternative venues – announcements will follow as necessary.

A full rehearsal schedule will be published in due course, but as a general guide:
Wednesday evenings (7-9pm) – Principals
Sunday afternoons (2-5:30pm – Full company (not everyone will be called for every Sunday rehearsal)
Before Christmas, full company rehearsals will be on 12 & 26 November; and 3 December.
Closer to the performances, Wednesdays and Sundays will both be full cast calls.

Scores and Libretti
We are using the witty English translation by John Mortimer (creator of Rumpole of the Bailey), which is not commercially available. We will have a PDF of the vocal score to circulate to all cast members for self-printing or use on a tablet or similar device. For the chorus, we will give the page references that you will need to print. Those with spoken dialogue will receive a libretto by email this week.

If you have any questions or would like to enquire further about the production, please feel free to email takepart@newlondonoperagroup.org

We hope that you will be able to join us for this wonderful operatic party in old Vienna!

With best wishes,
Chris & Alex
