The Pirates of Penzance – cast announcement – join the chorus!

We are thrilled to announce our principal cast for our new production of The Pirates of Penzance in Louth and at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton this summer! Many thanks to everyone who came to audition. We were delighted by the high standard of auditions and it was clear that a lot of work had gone into preparation.

Sadly, we were unable to offer all of our talented auditionees a principal role, but we hope that everyone will come and join our chorus for the show and all the usual Louth hijinks, including the now traditional curry night, beach picnic and all-important costume ceilidh, as well as the excitement of taking part in the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton! Pirates is truly a great show for chorus, with some of the best chorus music Sullivan ever composed, and our production will have a very ‘involved’ chorus, with fun choreography and ‘funny business’ for daughters, pirates and policemen alike, so please do come and join in! All are welcome – no audition necessary.

We are delighted to announce the cast as follows:

Major-General Stanley of the British Army – Tony Bannister
The Pirate King – Stephen Roe
Frederic a pirate apprentice – TBC
Samuel a pirate lieutenant – Stoo Gill
The Sergeant of Police – Geoffrey Wallis

Daughters of the Major-General
          Mabel – Katie Frodsham
          Edith – Sally Avery
          Katie – Juliet Hargreaves
          Isabel – Alicia Fothergill
Ruth a pirate maid-of-all-work – Helena Culliney

We are searching for a lyric tenor to sing Frederic. If you have the right voice type, or know a lyric tenor who might be interested, please put them in touch via takepart@newlondonoperagroup.org

Rehearsals will take place on Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings, starting this Sunday, 4 May at Holy Trinity Church, Prince Consort Road, South Kensington (close to the Royal Albert Hall). Performances will be in Louth, Lincolnshire on 19-21 June (company to be in Louth from 18 June) and at the Festival in Buxton on 5 August. If you would like to join the cast mailing list for company and rehearsal information, please also contact takepart@newlondonoperagroup.org

Thanks again to all who auditioned – we’re excited to get stuck into rehearsals!
