Champagne all round for The Sorcerer!

Well – what a great showing for NewLOG at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival awards ceremony 2023!

Congratulations to Alex Carpenter for winning the Best Male Voice award as Alexis, to Tony Bannister for winning Best Actor in a Male Role as John Wellington Wells and for his nomination for Best Director, to Chris Cann & Phil Errington for their Adjudicator’s Special Award for their heroic Dr Daly collaboration, and to our incredible chorus for their nomination in the Best Chorus category in our production of The Sorcerer. Bravi tutti!

Our thanks go to everyone who made the show such a success – our Musical Directors/Conductors Dave Anstice-Pim and John Hargreaves, the Costume Collective, our Props Master Bob Vaughan, Stage Manager Tim Strong, stagehands, lighting designer Peter Blackmore, the Steel Toecap Posse, the phenomenal Festival Orchestra; and of course the Festival organisers, volunteers adjudicator, and wonderful audience!

As well as our own winners and nominees, we also extend a huge round of applause to NewLOG stalwarts Helena Culliney (Best Actor in a Female Role winner as Tessa in Peak Opera’s The Gondoliers and Laura Jamie Anstice (nominated for Best Female Voice as Gianetta in the same production).

We had a splendid time at the Festival – as always – performing for our wonderful audience, and seeing all the excellent productions, events and cabarets – and of course meeting with friends old and new. We are already looking forward to our next visit! 🥂
