We are now accepting applications from anyone interested in directing Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer for our 2023 Louth Summer production! The dates for the performances are Thursday 22 – Saturday 24 June 2023 at the Riverhead Theatre in Louth, Lincolnshire, and the director will need to be in Louth from Saturday 17 June 2023. Auditions for cast usually take place around Easter, with rehearsals starting soon afterwards. Auditions and rehearsals take place in London. Applications are welcome from anyone who has previously performed or directed with us in Louth. Directing is hard work and involves not just planning, blocking and polishing the staging, but also a lot of background work in devising the rehearsal schedule and co-ordinating the different departments involved in the production. However, it is also incredibly rewarding and fulfilling to see your vision of a piece take shape on stage with an enthusiastic, capable and accomplished company of G&S performers. If you are an experienced director who would like to work your magic on the stage of the Riverhead Theatre, or if you’ve performed with us in Louth and have a clear idea of what you would like to do with The Sorcerer, this is an excellent chance to take part. Please email takepart@newlondonoperagroup.org for an application form. The application form will ask you to summarise different aspects of your production and list any members of the production team – musical director, costume, set and lighting designers, etc., that you have approached and asked to take part. The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday 2 September 2022. All candidates will be invited to an interview on the evening of Wednesday 21 September in central London and a decision will be made soon afterwards. Please ensure that you are available on the interview date. We welcome applications for both “traditional” and “conceptual” productions (the last NewLOG production of The Sorcerer was set on the home front during World War 2), but we ask that you consider the demographic of our audience. Be aware that ideas will be explored and tested rigorously at the interview and we will encourage you to explain and justify concepts. Please note that NewLOG is a not-for-profit amateur theatre company, and this is therefore not a paid position. All company members, including the cast, director and musical director, are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements and costs. If you have any questions please feel free to email us! With best wishes, Alex, Chris, Fay, Eirian, Tony & Steve The NewLOG Board |
